Rowes Bay retirement village resident raises $4000 for Leukemia

Bolton Clarke Rowes Bay retirement village resident Trish has raised $4000 and had the big chop as part of Shave for a Cure in support of her four-year-old great grandson.

Trish and husband Peter wanted to lend a helping hand and wanted to get involved with a community project that would make a difference.

“Then my great grandson was diagnosed with Leukaemia last November and because they live in New South Wales, I could go down to be with them but there wasn’t anything that I could really do to help,” Trish said.

“So, I thought the best thing that I can do is try and raise some money, and I got involved with Shave for a Cure - my granddaughter and her family were so happy when they found out.

“I actually had a piece of hair cut before they shaved it and I bought a little container with a note written on it saying ‘a piece of Grandma’s hair from Shave for a Cure’.”

When Trish decided to take part she didn’t think it was going to amount to $4000 but was astounded by the generosity of her fellow Rowes Bay retirement village residents and their community.

“It was definitely an emotional experience – the thing that I found as well was that our story touched people’s hearts more than I realised it was going to.

“The majority of the money came from my fellow residents here at Rowes Bay – there was so much support.

“I hope that the money I raise will make a big difference and help them find a cure for this horrible blood cancer.”
