A crafty Christmas for Banora Point aged care resident
Banora Point resident Stephanie has been crafting up the Christmas spirit at Bolton Clarke’s Darlington aged care home at Banora Point, creating individual door decorations for all 90 residents.
Starting the huge endeavour back in June of this year, Steph was assigned the task of making the Christmas door hangings with only one condition:
“I had to promise that I would enjoy the process and it had to be fun!” she said.
“Kelly our Lifestyle Coordinator came to me in June asking if I would like to make the decorations, but I could only do it if I knew I was going to enjoy the process.
“I started by looking for ideas and fully exhausting Pinterest but luckily, I am well-versed in crafts so I made my own patterns and altered what I found online.
“Some are crocheted, beaded, paper crafts and some are even made out of a paddle pop sticks – my work isn’t perfectionism, it’s just creative.”
The grandmother is modest about her skills but says while the pieces aren’t perfect, they are made with love as a special contribution towards spreading Christmas cheer throughout the home.
“We are just about to start handing out the decorations this week.
“I hope everyone gets the feeling it’s a special gift, because every piece was made with love.”
And once the last decoration is in place, Steph already has new plans.
“After Christmas is done, I want to fill my room up again for Valentine’s Day, Easter and St Patrick’s Day!”
