Bottles and cans inspiring change at Cleveland aged care
Bolton Clarke Seaton Place residents are upping their recycling game to help the environment and support lifestyle activities.
Starting the project in September last year, residents have already donated almost 1500 bottles and cans to their local Containers for Change, with earnings going towards extra equipment based on resident interests.
Seaton Place Lifestyle Assistant Shawn says the earnings have helped the team provide more items for activities such as arts and crafts supplies, exercise equipment and cooking utensils.
“We have completed four returns so far with a total of 1481 containers being collected from residents putting aside the bottles and cans they might have at lunch or dinner,” he said.
“We started out slowly, but with education for the team members and information given to the residents, it is increasing each collection.
“There has been a definite change in recycling habits for residents and we can already see the positive impact it is having on our home.”
The home’s most recycled item is aluminium with more than 615 cans being collected.
Resident Beryl says it’s an easy task for residents to help the home and environment.
“I have enjoyed collecting my wine bottles, soft drink cans and water bottles knowing I’m contributing and that the money is going to a good cause,” Beryl said.
“The thought of being able to assist our wonderful lifestyle team in getting new resources and items for us to use is really enjoyable.”
