Sunnybank Hills aged care home celebrates Diwali
For the first time, Bolton Clarke Cazna Gardens community came together to mark the festival of lights, Diwali.
Teaching residents and fellow team members about the Indian tradition, the community brought together good food, beautiful traditional outfits and plenty of dancing.
Cazna Gardens Clinical Coordinator Vishu was one of the team members putting the event together and says there was an overwhelming excitement at the home in the lead up to the event.
“Celebrating different cultural festivals, food and customs allows team members and residents to learn from one another and recognises our diverse backgrounds,” she said.
“Residents were involved with preparing the decorations and had the opportunity to share their travel experiences with one another.
“It was a wonderful day for everyone and the residents had a great time!”
For resident John, his connections with the Sri Sathya Sia gave him the opportunity to celebrate Diwali for more than a decade.
“The evenings were always filled with different food, music, dancing, and the singing of songs that represent the meaning of Diwali,” he said.
“I was so happy to have had the opportunity to celebrate Diwali here at the home and contribute to planning the event.”
